A true Native New Yorker, born in Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan, NY, raised between the Bronx and Far Rockaway Queens, Darcel spent much of her adolescent years between the 5 boroughs; Most of her adult years was spent in Brooklyn, NY.
Darcel is both an artist and muse in the true sense. As a teen, Darcel danced on internationally renowned stages such as Harlem's Apollo Theater. In 1988, she was an emcee, managed briefly by Father MC. In 1996, Darcel collaborated with Dr. Elizabeth Nunez and Dr. Brenda Greene, transcribing the Fourth National Black Writer's Conference book. Darcel can be heard on the "For Women" song, by the the hip hop artist, Talib Kweli's Reflection Eternal.
Darcel is the former Health Chair of the Newburgh-Highland Falls NAACP. She has hosted “Wellness Wednesdays” with The Wellness Galaxy & has spread her divine light of healing on American & Africa’s soil.
Darcel is an ardent journaler and author. Her journal collection dates back to 1989. Darcel founded "Dances on Paper Press", her own publishing company. She spent a majority of the first 5 years of the publishing company’s inception grinding through the streets, tirelessly selling her books everywhere from bookstores to nail salons throughout the tri-state area of New York City.
Inspired by the talents of authors such as Zora Neale Hurston, J. California Cooper, Paulo Coehlo and Kahlil Gibran, her novel Dana Dances on Paper has transcended its literary boundaries off the pages and into the hearts of its readers. She’s an author of 3 books:

Empress Darcel is now A Reiki level3 Practitioner & Intuitive Life Coach for "Talk to Darcel". Talk to Darcel was born from Covid-19 pandemic. She also has a podcast, "Light, Darcel Turner."
In 2021 Empress Darcel took the chance with her teen son, Elijah whom she was homeschooling at the time and landed in Morocco, Africa for 3 months & performed lots of Reiki healing on African soil and continues to perform Reiki in the United States.
Empress Darcel has also performed at numerous colleges, high schools, The Long Island National Urban League and at popular events such as "Liquid Language" at Barnes and Nobles and "Ladies on the Mic" at The Bowery Poetry Club. She’s been a featured author at The Harlem Book Fair, Word Canvas (Lit Noire Publishing Events) and Verses at The Nuyorican Poets' Café. Empress Darcel has made a number of radio, podcast, and video appearances including Amanda “Diva” Seales, Trip Over Radio with Will B Kay, Storm Monroe with Storm. Empress Darcel has done Keynote Speaking as well as influenced and penned about in Talib Kweli’s “Vibrate Higher” autobiographical book … just to name a few.
Darcel is a mother of 4; shares 2 adult children with Hip-Hop pioneer Talib Kweli. God, music, dancing, family, Reiki healing, and prayer continue to inspire her to write. In turn, she is continuously fueled by her desire to inspire others and reach her ultimate goal of helping to create a better planet through Save the Trees.
